The Dankov District was established on 30 July 1928.

Situated in the center of European Russia, it is the northern part of the Lipetsk Region and borders the Tula and Ryazan regions, as well as the Lebedyan and Lev Tolstoy districts. The local rivers include the headwater of the Don river and its tributaries Rykhotka, Dubok, Vyazovka, and Perekhvalka. Flowing from north to south, the Don divides the district into the eastern and western parts. In the western part, there is the Ptan River which flows into the Krasivaya Mecha.

Lying in the Central Russian Upland, the district has numerous gullies and ravines.
The climate is moderately continental with mild winters and warm summers. The average temperature reaches minus 5.2°C in January and 20.3°C in July.

The administrative center is the city of Dankov founded in 1563. It located 86 km from Lipetsk on the Don at its confluence with the Vyazovka River. The district includes 14 villages and 1 city.

Industry is a significant component of the local economy

The local industry includes 9 companies producing chemicals, food, processed products, consumer goods, and construction materials. Dolomit (part of NLMK Group) represents the local mining sector. Another local company is a producer of various dairy products from whole milk.

NPO Silma, Russia's only company producing intestinal adsorbents (gels), is also located in the district and keeps on growing rapidly.

AngelYeastRus is a local producer of dry yeast, employing 509 people with an average salary of RUB 50,000.

EastAgroDon has been commissioned recently to manufacture prebiotics and fructans from girasol for the food industry. The primary goal of the district's industrial strategy is to maintain and develop its production potential, create a local competitive environment, and continue upgrading its production facilities.

In the reporting year, sales of goods and services in major sectors of the local economy decreased by as little as 6.2% year-on-year and totaled RUB 20.7 billion.

Implementing investment projects aimed at import substitution, higher exports, advanced technologies, and workforce productivity remain a priority of the industrial development in 2023. The consumer market is one of the most important segments employing most of the district population. Besides, consumption is a certain indicator of people's welfare.
